How long was it for you?

i'm curious: how many years were you in before you left?

by left, i mean either df'd and decided not to go back, or da'd, or faded, or even just realized it was a crock but stuck around anyway for family reasons?.

we're told in la-la-land that it's the newly baptized, those who are "spiritually immature" that mostly leave.

My mother began studying and attending meetings in 1972, i was 2 at the time. I was raised by my single mom until she remarried in 1976 to an up and coming R&F who was yet to be babtised. I was enrolled in the theocratic school by the age of 5, and gave my first bible reading shortly after. In 1985 i was babtized at the stanley theater, though i had my doubts, i went through with it thinking it was my rebellious teen years poking through and that it would subside, i was 15 then. By this point my step-dad was an MS.

I auxilaried several times through the coming years as well as staying active in the school, had mike, music and sound duties as well. About 2 years later my eyes started opening, and i started voicing my questions that had begun about the age of 13 at a much more audible level. In 1993, i attended my last district convention and it was also the last time i ever set foot in any type of JW gathering. I walked away, without being DA'd or DF'd and was called only once to see if everything was ok. Currently i am 30.

most of the people on this message board i've noticed are either ex-jw's or in the process.

of some of the many reasons i left, one was due to the fanaticism of the christian faith, granted with the jw interpretaion, and as many on the board here will agree the last thing many of us want is somebody saying "well after the dust settles you still need god in your life", the last thing many of us want is a PERSON saying those words, thank you but no, to say you empathize is wonderful, but you will never understand what this experience does to the psyche of one who HAS lived it. . .

you have had a choice in your path of faith for those of us without this choice it has been a very gruesome experience, EVERYTHING religious becomes a reason and a motivation to question and research. . .

read my post if you havent yet, "HOW WELL DO YOU KNOW THE BIBLE", and get back to me if you will, and maybe that will help you realize the amount of questioning that goes on in the head of someone who for 20 years belived the bible. . .

not asking for any type of sympathy, only for you to realize that converting is not that simple for most of us anymore. . .

in light of the recent media on the pdophiles with in the organization and the wtbts stand on how these shoulld be dealt with , especailly in states where there is no law regarding reporting this to authorities.,............does any one here feel the neighborhood, town council or neighborhood watch in their town might have interest in know ing , child molestors are walking thier side walks.. .

knowing that summer is coming and lots of outdoor activities along with children being out of school, the community i am sure would like to know who is knocking on their door.. after all, how many pedophiles get an opportunity to get into the community and actually see homes where kids live , see the surrounding s of the house, all in such an innocent trusted manner....put your self at that door answering it with this person at the door.......if you knew this.

can we go door to door after the witnesses are there to say.....by the way the folks who were just here, are part of an organization that shields pedophiles, and doesnt come clean with even its own members as to whothe said offender is .........perhaps a petition against the house to house could be signed......and then offered to local officals.

i definitely feel that something must be done to warn our neighbors as to the potential danger of those going to their doors in sheeps clothing. . . .

fliers will work but as long as they are promoted, it takes time to spread these around. . .

as far as walking around and behind the r&f, with picket signs and such, while they are going door to door, will only promote negativity. it will be a classic example of us and them. we dont need that. . .

we are wanting to do a justice for our community on many levels, the more educated and organized that we come across the more serious we will be taken. . .

i strongly agree that the way to topple this giant, is to start at the bottom, lets start slowing the work down by notifying the neighbors and the authorities, several of these "attacks" will cause a stir, and if we do it right and do it nationally and eventually globally, which we will in turn, in time not only will it cause an effect in "sales" at the WT, but they will not have enough lawyers to keep up, IF we do this right. . . .

jehovahs witnesses are lovely people, i should know - i officially still am one ... but ... although their great cult leader, judge joseph rutherford, banned them from taking part in the evil pagan celebrations of birthdays and such, there is one ceremony that is ridgedly and solemly adhered to.

as most here are aware, each nissan14, kingdom halls around the world are packed to the collection boxes with the 'happiest people on earth'.

Badass you cant even imagine i am plotting and scheeming, i want a witness(no pun of course) to this event i believe the experience would produce a very tight bond. . .
i am even hoping for a few of us that way we can spread out and distract them, have several of us partake and really irritate them. . .
Riz went as far as suggesting we fill up an entire row, can you imagine the chaos as they attempt to rip the cups and platters out of our hands?!!!!

i remember at a book study the conductor saying something about ho simple everything was and that anyone of us could easily talk for a minute about our beliefs.. everybody froze of course and was hoping he wouldn't pick them.. no one could or wanted to do it even amongst each other !.

it's a sad indictment of the 'faith' isn't it.

i have a theory that 90% of jw's could not tell you what the current beliefs were.

i went into the aol JW's and Friends chat and lurked a while, every so often i would ask an unsuspecting jw why he believed what he did, not only was my question usually answered with leading questions, they would go as far as saying that i should go to a hall and ask someone there, because anyone could say anything online meaning that perhaps it wasnt a witness answering, this after them saying that indeed they were witnesses. . .

again further proof of the brainwashing not only are they told they should not be on line, but in case they are, they are told what to say so as to not answer and get their numbers up at the hall. . .

do a search on john edward, he has a site but i am not sure if it is johnedward.com or .org, and he is also on the sci-fi channel(cable tv in usa) and has a site on their page too.

i recommend getting one of his books and watching his show.

its refreshing to know that some of us arrive at the same conclusions, because we left for similar reasons, what we know in our hearts and in our minds is irrefutable, it is so personal and it is so clear, and the beauty lies within the fact that there is nothing to prove, because when you know it doesnt matter.

The teacher comes when the student is ready, and some truths are not to be wasted, i believe casting pearls to the pigs is how it is refered to in the scriptures. . .

not for lack of words, but because i find it appropriate for this thread, i am reposting clips of one of my posts from Englishman's thread:

This post is becoming a debate synanymous to proving whether or not god exists. . .

Here we are debating whether or not psychic abilities are real or not. of course we are going to have opposing views. The nonbelievers want hardcore facts, the believers could care any if they are believed or not, they know what they have experienced. There are valid points to both sides of the argument. . .

When a born again claims that the holy spirit has decended on him and shown him the light, do we accept it or do we think he is nuts? When someone claims to have seen a ufo do we judge them? when it was brought to our attention that the WT dabbled in the occult did it make sense or did it take us into denial?

It all comes down to tolerance and respect, i dont think anyone here is trying to change anyones opinion on the matter, most of us here are strong, fairly intelligent and open minded individuals, in search of good subject matter to discuss, wanting to expand our horizons.

I think the attacks should be saved and the words thought out before submiting them to the board, that way saving the bickering and keeping the post in focus with the subject. . .if not we may as well put on our blinders go back to the hall and highlight our watchtowers. I see nothing wrong with a little speculaton and hypothesizing now that we are able to without the guilt trip of doing so. The name calling and intelligence knocking only shows the lack of compassion and understanding for what we have gone through, perhaps it even reflects a tad of hostility, and immaturity that may remain.

I personally am a believer if my posts havenot given it away, but i am not blinded by the charlatans that tend to exagerate the gifts that we as humans were given.

perhaps it will allow for some creative thinking and interesting discussion or maybe it simply wont go anywhere.
